In Marvel’s “Captain America: the first avenger” released this July, Steve Rogers is a weakling who never gives up his dream of joining the Army and go fight Nazis, despite the bullying and poor medical reviews. His character’s trajectory is pretty much told in the trailer: Rogers volunteers for a secret Army program to enhance his strength and reflexes by placing him in a waffle-maker and bombarding him with rays.

Voila, instant super-soldier, ready to kick nemesis Red Skull und his minions in the keister.
A little over 40 years ago, another super hero was making less waves, off screen at least. Written and directed by American expat William Klein, “Mr. Freedom” is an interesting satire and counter-point to “Captain America”, which Klein made in his adopted country of France.
Uh-oh, you’re already sensing where this is going…
A friend of mine, who posts elsewhere, posted about this. Her username is effervescent and she lives up to it. Her post was about Yoga, but I’m stealing the kitty bits. The original post was centered around quitting smoking and coping methods. Yes, I’m a quitter and proud of it. Actually, Lastech and I are both quitters. She gets full credit though for this post though. I must add that the first LOL pic is also from the quitters section. I don’t know if it was made for our group or not. No matter, it’s quite wonderful and I love it. If or when, I know for sure, I’ll update to give credit where it is due.
Cheesy music that is… From our Spam box, a couple doozies:
“I principled present up on some mind-boggling further galvanizing cars that purpose be coming out in the next 3 years that competition my budget and inclination be struck by up to 300 mpg!!!
But I was wondering, how these cars would hold on a row after a ice storm? The pile would be expert recompense me, but i material in the midwest and coerce a jalopy that can get almost ice and snow.
The facts I would like to from is the regular bias an stirring wheels, front/rear wheel pilot, and backing bowels space.”
“Getting Any?”– (1994, Japan, 108 minutes – no rating)
In modern day Japan, Asao (Dankan) is an ordinary guy in his thirties living with his grandfather. Asao, however, is driven by an obsession to have sex in a car and soon embarks on an extraordinary journey in this comedy from Takeshi “Beat” Kitano.
Well, it’s another Friday. Tonight we have some trivia, some humor, and the boys, of course.
First, the cat trivia:
Cat Sìth (Scot.) or Cat Sidhe (Irish) comes from Celtic mythology. According to Wikipedia:
Legend has it that the spectral cat haunts the Scottish Highlands. Some common folklore suggested that the Cat Sìth was not a fairy, but a transformed witch.
The cat, whether wild or domestic, is sacred to the Goddess in Celtic tradition, appearing in Irish, Welsh and Breton folklore. But it is in Scotland that is found a particularly powerful connection. A number of Scottish clans held the cat as their totem animal: those of MacIntosh, MacNeishe and MacNicol the domestic cat, and the MacBain the wild cat. The cat-people, a Pictish tribe known as the Kati, lived in Caithness, the ness or promontory of the cats, and in Sutherland in Gaelic is the Cataobh – cat country.
Note: The MacBain in bold is my doing. It’s my clan. The clan motto is touch not the catt bott a targe which translates to touch not the cat without a shield. 🙂
Sooooooooo what happens when we mix that with a bit of Star Wars? Well, instead of Cat Sìth we get Sith cats.
For those with short attention spans… SQUIRREL!!!!
Hmmmmm, so what does Tito think of all this? As a young kitten he bored easily and fell asleep. He just wasn’t a Star Wars fan.
Kitsune, on the other hand, adores Star Wars as do I.
The mythological sphinx, while not to be confused with the Sphynx, does combine elements of other species. How many of us have observed, while watching a cat “he/she looks like a bat! An Owl… A panther, monkey, rat, wolf, bird….”
I often think of Tito as a wolf with stripes, but as to Mazuzu Whang…
