At the end of October, I posted about our trip to Angel Island. I only posted the fog and harbor pics from that trip.
Now I’m going to share another batch of photos. While we were there, we took the tram circuit around the island. While it was frustrating because I wanted to step out and explore, it was also good since we could see just where we wanted to go when we go back. And we certainly will go back at some point.
The island has had a varied history. It has been the hunting grounds of the Miwok tribe, an immigration station and a quarantine station. It also served the military from the Civil War until 1962.
The first stop was Camp Reynolds. Ok, it was more of a momentary pause. Camp Reynolds was built in 1863 to stand guard against Confederate sympathizers. Later it served the troops fighting in the various indian wars.
From there, we continued on around the island. Soon we passed the old rock quarry. The greenish-blue rock is Serpentine, which is the state rock of CA. It was quarried by prisoners from Alcatraz.
We stopped here to take in the lovely view of San Francisco…or not.
I’ll stop here with a final photo. It’s the gates to the old Nike missile site. It’s closed to visitors due to the unsafe conditions. With luck, maybe they’ll restore it enough to teach people about the history. I’ll post part 3 soon.
hijacked my husband’s computer this AM. i want that first house. still freezing but warm up will begin and reach 80F by weekend. HUGS to my wonderful friend, i won’t be at FB from here, but soon.
