Angel Island: Another date with Karl The Fog

I’m not sure if Karl The Fog is confused or if he just loves us too much to go on vacation. This is supposed to be our sunny month. Instead, Karl has been hanging around wreaking havoc on visibility and forcing me to turn on the heater. 🙂

Tuesday, we were invited on a trip to Angel Island.

This photo was taken a couple of months ago when Karl was dancing around the island. Follow along below the fold for more.

Angel Island

Angel Island is the largest island in the San Francisco Bay. Originally, the Coast Miwok used it as a hunting site. That was followed by the Spanish. Ayala Cove is named after Juan Manuel de Ayala who set anchor there and was the first to map the bay. Later, it served as an immigration center and a military outpost.

We took too many photos to use in one post. This post will just show the island, cove and surrounding areas. The next post will show some of the military sites and the Immigration Center.

Eventually, the sun put in an appearance.

The sun was out, but it wasn’t destined to stay long. Karl The Fog loves to be the center of attention.

This last photo is deceptive. A mere 30 minutes later, Karl swooped in, visibility dropped and it was dark and cold. It was certainly a day of contrasts and we enjoyed every minute of it. I promise to show more of the island next time.

  1. Gorgeous pictures, as usual! We’ve had cold weather all week here. We even had ice pellets falling yesterday. We don’t usually get snow here before Halloween but we sure came close. I’m going to a costume party tomorrow night – I will post pictures on my blog this weekend. Are you doing anything special for Halloween?

    1. Thank you Grace. The island is really interesting. We took a one hour tram ride to see the other sites. Sadly, it didn’t really stop at any of them, so all my photos of that were taken while moving. I got some good ones though and I’ll try to get them up next week. Some of the old buildings are pretty and others are in various states of decay. We want to go back and tour on foot so we can take more pics.

We have no plans for Halloween. We live on a street that’s a tad dangerous for kids on foot as it’s a main bus route and has a lot of heavy traffic, so we’ll just keep our lights off that night. There’s plenty of residential area nearby, so the children won’t lack goodies. I look forward to seeing your pics. 🙂

  2. As always it is a treat to enjoy all your art. I look forward to coming out there soon and we can enjoy a friendly duelling cameras time. Both if us winners and I think our camera art will compliment each others. Until then, thank you for sharing your art and your jelly beans of doom babies. All my good wishes my lovely friend!
