Mt. Tamalpais on a Sunny Day

Last Wednesday, I posted about the Return to Cataract Falls. After we left the shady ferns and mosses of Cataract Trail, we headed to the top of Mt. Tamalpais. It was getting a bit late in the afternoon, but that didn’t stop us.

From the Cataract Trail we went West until we reached Ridgecrest Boulevard, where we turned South. We promptly ran into a film shoot and had to wait before we can get past it. After that, we finally emerged from the trees and drove along the hilltops on the Western slope of Mt. Tamalpais. This stretch of Ridgecrest is one of the most filmed roads in the country. It has been used in many car commercials, so I’m sure you have seen it at some point.

From the top of the ridge, you can see the Pacific as well as the Bay.

Eventually, we made our way to the East Peak. Mt. Tamalpais State Park has some of the most impressive views in the area. The trail winds its way around the mountain only about a hundred feet below the top. On a clear day, you can see the Pacific, San Francisco Bay, Mt. Diablo to the East and Mt. St. Helena to the North. On an overcast day, the view is more like this

Fog
Yes, this is a real picture I took of the fog one day
