No matter how long I live here in San Francisco, I will never get tired of looking at the Golden Gate Bridge. The view from the Marin Headlands is magnificent and from there, one can see the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline. On the weekends, it’s full of tourists. On the weekdays, at dawn, it’s much more peaceful, with only a few people.
Conzleman Road winds around the Marin Headlands just North and West of the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s steep and winding in places, but it’s worth the drive. It has some of the best views in the entire Bay Area. From there, on can see across the bay to Oakland, Alcatraz Island, Angel Island, and the San Francisco Skyline. Project Headlands has been ongoing. It has really improved the roads and view points. You can also check on road closures at the above link.
West of Hawk Hill, the road is one-way, narrow, and winding. At that hour of the morning, the hawks are hunting and the deer are everywhere. Black-tailed deer are found in abundance. It’s a good idea to drive slowly for two reasons. It’s easier to enjoy the view and you won’t hit a deer standing in the road.
