The California State flower is the Eschscholzia californica. Known as the California Poppy or Golden Poppy, it is springing up everywhere. Here in San Francisco, it grows in the cracks of sidewalks and roads and can be found in all the parks. It varies in color from white to dark orange.
Spring has arrived and the local wildflowers have erupted everywhere. More about that tomorrow. Today, I present a funny LOL starring sphynx kitties and a new video by OK Go. This new video is as colorful as the season. You can visit their YouTube page or their homepage.
We try to slip out to catch the sunrise, but sometimes we leave much earlier. The very early morning hours are usually calm, beautiful and full of wildlife. Late last year we went to the Legion of Honor to take pics and watch for wildlife. While we didn’t get any photos of wildlife, we did get a few of the museum.

Here are some happy cows for you to enjoy. This video was shot by Compassion in World Farming. I’m not a vegetarian (almost, but not quite), but I feel that all livestock should be raised in this manner, rather than in factory farms.
In addition to happy cows, we have some happy cats wearing hats. They belong to YouTube user Shironekoshiro.
A happy post just wouldn’t be the same without a Maru LOL picture.
It’s Wednesday and the week is winding down. Maz Whang was off singing tra-la-la-la in the other room. I wish I had a recording of it, as it was funny. Oh well. Here is a bit of humor and happiness to make your day go by a bit a quicker.
Simon’s Cat always makes me laugh. Gentlemanly Tito is guilty of this trick. It’s one of the few evil things that he does.
As for the happiness part, the dachshunds have it. They just look so happy that it makes me smile.
I met Lastech almost ten years ago. We married 8 years ago today. I have to be completely honest and say that life hasn’t always been easy, but being married has not been difficult at all. There are harder things in life than being married to your best friend.
Together we have adopted 4 kitties. We lost a sweet one to cancer, but we still have three.

In addition, we have managed to go exploring in the mountains, beaches, and parks of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Throughout all that, one of our biggest accomplishments occurred in 2008. Together, we quit smoking. Even that wasn’t enough to make us get cranky with each other. I have many words I could use to describe my life with Lastech and boring isn’t one of them.
In other words…
And now for an absurd and almost annoying anniversary song by the Flintstones.
Last Wednesday, I posted about the Return to Cataract Falls. After we left the shady ferns and mosses of Cataract Trail, we headed to the top of Mt. Tamalpais. It was getting a bit late in the afternoon, but that didn’t stop us.
On Saturday, we got to see another glorious sunrise. We love the Marin Headlands as they provide a stunning view of the the Golden Gate, The Golden Gate Bridge, and the San Francisco Bay. For some reason we saw no wildlife with the exception of birds. It was odd as we usually see dozens of black tailed deer, not to mention the squirrels and bunnies playing murder ball in the road.
Still, the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline looked beautiful in the morning light.

Even the chert had a pretty red glow that morning.

I do wish we had seen more wildlife. Maybe we’ll get lucky next time.
In the last year, we have had to write two sad stories about the passing of two wonderful Corgis. This is a happy story about the their pal Tsula, a Corgi who is still keeping her daddy company. Our friend Abra Crabcakeya misses his two Corgis fiercely, but Tsula provides comfort and companionship. She adores him and the feeling is mutual.
Tsula the happy Corgi
Tsula was born on August 15, 2005. She went to live with Abra when she was ten weeks old. She learned quickly to sit up on her rear with her paws up so that she could be seen when she wanted something. I wish I could see that. I had a dog that would do that. It was cute as heck.
Tsula's yard with daffodils
Tsula has a great yard and has plenty of opportunity to engage in her favorite sport. She loves to chase chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels. She always takes time for a nap right after breakfast. She has to keep her energy up for the chase. Her number one favorite thing is being daddy’s girl and spending her time with him.

This was Tsula’s time to shine a bit. She’s such a lovely and happy little dog, that she deserved a bit of the spotlight. May she have many more days of varmint chasing ahead of her.
Timing and weather finally permitted us to head back North to Marin County to visit Cataract Falls again. We wrote about our first trip back in October of 2010. They are located on the West end of Alpine Lake on the Northwest slope of Mt. Tamalpais. We weren’t sure if the falls would be flowing or not as we are way behind on our rain for the season. However, we had two good rainfalls just before we went, so we were in luck.
