Manic Monday and Good Advertising

I’ll be honest. I’m a Madison Avenue nightmare. Not only do I ignore most advertising, when I do pay attention I don’t bother to remember WHAT company was being advertised. Once in a while I surprise myself. I don’t jump to buy the product, but I pay attention. This advert from The Guardian, got my attention. It’s well done and smart. It stars the Big Bad Wolf and The Three Little Pigs.

Caturday: It’s Official

Friday Night Cats Blogging is now Caturday. It’s a schedule that should work better for us. This way, we can escape the city on a weekday and enjoy the trails without a crowd and we don’t have to worry about missing a post.

Tito was his normal polite self.

The other two were something else. Kitsy woke me at 3:30 am begging for noms. Miss Jenny was egging him on. He doesn’t just yell. I sleep on my side and I wake up to find him standing on my arm and ribcage. He’s a bloody velvet wrapped mace. Miss Jenny helps by standing on my hip. She’s a lot lighter than Kitsy. They did NOT get their noms until 6am. I didn’t get any sleep, but I didn’t give in either.

Fake Tales of San Francisco: Name That Movie

Over the years, the city of San Francisco has starred in quite a few books, movies and tv shows. Steve McQueen and Clint Eastwood have driven its streets. Dashiell Hammett also made San Francisco the stage of The Maltese Falcon. One can even take a 4 hour Dashiell Hammett walking tour. Contagion was one of the more recent movies that was filmed here. It is also the host of the headquarters and council chambers of the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet.

Not long ago we watched a movie starring our wonderful city.  Watching it, I realized that I had photos of almost every place that was important to the story and I decided to play a little game. I’m going to post the photos and maybe you can figure out which movie we watched. I don’t think it will be difficult for the movie buffs out there.

Lloyd Lake
The Pillars of the Past is the first landmark mentioned in the movie, though not shown
Lombard
900 Lombard was the home of the leading male character
Nob Hill
The Brocklebank building at 1000 Mason on Nob Hill was where the leading female character lived

The characters visited other places in and out of The City. I present them in no particular order.

Mission Dolores
Mission Dolores, the site of a mysterious grave
Legion of Honor
The California Palace of the Legion of Honor was home to a mysterious painting
Muir Woods
The two lead characters paid a visit to Muir Woods, North of San Francisco
Palace of Fine Arts
The movie couple took a stroll around the Palace of Fine Arts
Fort Point
Fort Point, the site of major drama. The chain link fence was erected after 9/11 and was not present in the movie

If you have figured it out already, good for you. For those still struggling, I have placed several photos below the fold that should provide the answer.

Manic Monday: Speaking of Noms…

Our last post was about the 3am terrors that I suffer at the paws of Maz Whang. When he wants his noms, he can be pushy (understatement). Well, here are some kitties who really want their noms. Cats have figured out how to manipulate their humans and they are perfecting the art.

Example 1: Turning on the cuteness

If that doesn’t work, try sign language

Then, if all else fails, they act like they are evil and possessed

A Stroll Through the Arboretum

We love Strybing Arboretum in Golden Gate Park. I forgot, they changed the name. It’s now called San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum. While I’m completely unimpressed with the name change, I love to visit the Arboretum. It is free to the San Francisco residents and there is something new to see every time we go. Here are a few examples.

Maz Whang? Haz a Sexy

I caught Maz Whang at it again. I swear he’s really trying out for the calendar model thing. Here are his latest attempts. I actually think he’s rather good. I would prefer that he keep it tasteful though.

Oooh sexy

But he’s also taken to calling himself “Mazza”, Italian for “Mace”, thinking it more catchy. How do we know? He has… Peed his new moniker a few times in the litter box, promptly scratched over by Miss Jenny who doesn’t cotton to such things.

Valentine’s Day with Kitty Love

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. I’m not into gobs of pink and flowers and whatnot, so I figured I would just share a couple of videos featuring Oskar the Blind Kitty and his best friend Klaus. It’s definitely love. Please feel free to visit their blog or check out their YouTube page.

heart

Oskar was born blind. His buddy Klaus lost a chunk of his ear. Both of these kitties were rescues and now they have a wonderful forever home.

Here are Oskar and Klaus having an epic door battle.

Here are Oskar and Klaus going for their daily walk.

Klaus isn’t in this video, but Oskar is having a lot of funny with the hair dryer.

Manic Monday with Quail

It’s another manic Monday and that requires a bit of humor. I tend to surf the net until something catches my eye. That usually results in a snowball effect of memory jogs and link chasing. That is pretty much what happened in this case.

I found this video.

The above video immediately reminded me of my favorite Ab Fab bit that I just had to share.

Miss Nightshade Jenny and the Art of Kibble Tossing

Kibble kibble everywhere
Kibble kibble everywhere, even in the water dish

Yes, Miss Jenny is a kibble tosser. She has made an art of it. Sadly, our feet are suffering. Kibble just isn’t fun to step on in the dark. It took a while before we saw how she did it. We knew it was her because we never had to clean up kibble before she came to live with us.

Caught in the act
Caught in the act

One day, I walked into the kitchen and caught her in the act. She stands IN the kibble bowl to eat. When she’s done eating, she makes a large leap to get out and the kibble flies everywhere. What a silly little kitty.

Non Sequitur warning

This was just too funny

Justice and Terra are Together Again

On Monday, January 23, 2012, Justice, a handsome Welsh Corgi, crossed the Rainbow Bridge to join his lifelong friend, Terra

Terra and Justice
Terra and Justice reunited

Justice was born on June 24th, 1996 and took up residence with our friend, Abra Crabcakeya when he was 8 mos. old. His prior life as a show dog ended when he was disqualified (for the third time) for objecting strenuously to a male judge checking him for the required equipment. While his coloring is properly called “tobacco brindle with white points” Abra just calls him “the brown one that’s drooling.”

Justice
Justice, loyal and loved

In his younger days, Mr. Justice, along with his pals Tsula and Terra loved to go on trips to the Reservation for a bit of fishing and a good trout dinner. Justice had his favorite foods too. He loved anything Italian and deer meat. According to Abra, Justice learned how to spell.

The first word Justice learned to spell was “lasagna”, defeating all attempts the rest of his life to hide information from him. He really could spell, or recognize a lot of words when spelled out loud, and learned synonyms faster than a lot of people.

Justice
Watchful little Corgi

Over the years, he went from boating and fishing to preferring car rides and long naps. He enjoyed his cheeseburger treats on road trips. He also went from chasing deer to sitting still and watching them. According to Abra, he was a good mouser in his day and he loved to chase other varmints as well.

For more than 15 and a half years he was a most loyal and loving companion. Now he waits at the bridge with Terra so he can greet his friends Tsula and Abra when they arrive.

Justice

I’m not quite sure of the reasons, but we felt that this beautiful version of a children’s song was rather appropriate. So here is a song for Justice.
